The Canadian government has announced a temporary pause on new applications for the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) in 2025. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will focus solely on processing up to 15,000 applications submitted in 2024.

This decision comes as part of broader adjustments to Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan, which reduced permanent residency targets for the PGP to 24,500 for 2025, down from earlier projections of 34,000. The pause aims to streamline processing and manage demand more effectively.
Families seeking alternatives can explore the super visa program, allowing parents and grandparents to visit Canada for up to five years at a time.
