IRCC invites 249 PNP candidates September draw

Canada has started September’s immigration action with a new Express Entry draw. The federal government issued 249 candidates nominated through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) on September 2, 2025.

Applicants must have had a minimum of 772 CRS and must apply online before August 28, 2025, 7:19 p.m. UTC. It was one of the higher-ranked 2025 draws to date, further demonstrating PNP draws to be extremely competitive.

Highlight of Latest Drawing Activity

This draw was after a series of high-volume draws that had occurred in August, whereby IRCC aimed for different candidate pools. For instance:

  • Health workers and social services workers got their 2,500 invitations on August 19, while their vastly smaller cut-off was 470.
  • There was a low PNP draw on August 18 that released 192 invitations with a minimum score of 800.
  • French speakers showed a preference on August 8, when 2,500 invitations were issued at a CRS of 481.
  • There was action in the Canadian Experience Class (CEC), with 1,000 invites being issued on August 7 (CRS 534).

These changes reflect that IRCC alternates between giving importance to priority occupations, proficiency in languages, and provincial draws.

Annual Total Express Entry Draws to Date

With its most recent round added to it, 56,069 invitations were made in 2025 alone. The breakup of categories reveals how IRCC has tackled CWS for the year:

  • 16 draws for the Provincial Nominee Program
  • 8 draws for candidates for the Canadian Experience Class
  • 4 draws for proficiency in French
  • 4 draws for healthcare and social services professionals
  • 1 special lottery for education staff

The PNP remains center stage, reflecting Canada’s focus on helping provinces and territories to catch up with their own manpower requirements.

Draw Patterns in 2025

Let Whereas certain draws require extremely high CRS scores (especially for PNP nominees), others accommodate specialist cohorts with reduced requirements. For example, draws for French-language invitations earlier this year had been reduced to just 379, giving bilingual applicants a distinct edge. Draws for healthcare professionals also made a mark, issuing thousands of invitations to specialists who were deemed essential to the Canadian economy.

What It Is for Potential Immigrants

This September’s draw again reinforces two major positives for Express Entry applicants:

  • High PNP draws to meet CRS requirements make a provincial nomination a strong but highly competitive route.
  • Category-based shortlisting—e.g., for medical, education, and French proficiency, together provide other chances to those who cannot attain overall cut-offs.

Applicants should also double-check that their profiles are up to date and explore options like provincial nominees or category programs to increase their chances of being invited.
