Alberta continues to intensify its immigration efforts in 2026, issuing over 1,400 invitations to candidates across multiple pathways under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). Six Draws Held in Three Weeks
Between late February and mid-March, Alberta conducted six immigration draws, inviting candidates through a mix of streams designed to meet labor market needs. These draws targeted a wide range of applicants, including skilled workers already in the province, rural candidates, and professionals in high-demand industries.
The invitations were distributed across the following streams:

- Rural Renewal Stream
- Alberta Express Entry – Priority Sectors (Healthcare)

The six draws conducted between February 26 and March 16 issued a total of 1,447 invitations. A significant portion of these invitations went to candidates under the Alberta Opportunity Stream.

Notably, the March 16 draw marked Alberta’s first healthcare-focused Express Entry selection of the year, signaling an increased push to address workforce shortages in the medical sector.
Nomination Allocation for 2026
According to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada, Alberta has been allocated 6,403 provincial nomination spaces for 2026. As of mid-March, the province has already issued over 1,100 nominations, leaving more than 5,000 spots available for the remainder of the year.
So far, Alberta has conducted 18 draws in 2026, issuing nearly 4,000 invitations to prospective immigrants.

More than half of all nominations this year are expected to be issued through the Alberta Opportunity Stream alone.
Strong Demand Reflected in Candidate Pool
Alberta’s immigration system continues to see high demand. As of mid-March:
- Over 43,000 candidates had active Expressions of Interest (EOIs) in the selection pool
- Nearly two-thirds of these were under the Alberta Opportunity Stream
- More than 1,200 applications were under processing across streams
