Sharp Increase in CRS Scores

The latest draw saw a notable six-point rise in CRS scores compared to the previous CEC round. This is the largest jump observed in 2026 so far, indicating a shrinking pool of lower-scoring candidates and heightened competition within the Express Entry system.

At the same time, this round issued fewer invitations than previous CEC draws, making it the smallest CEC-specific draw of the year.

Express Entry Trends in 2026

So far in 2026, IRCC has conducted 22 Express Entry draws, with a strong focus on candidates already in Canada. The majority of invitations have gone to:

  • Canadian Experience Class candidates
  • Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) applicants
  • French-language proficient candidates

This trend highlights Canada’s strategy of prioritising inland applicants and those who can integrate quickly into the labour market.

Number of Draws by Category (2026)

  • Provincial Nominee Program: 8 draws
  • Canadian Experience Class: 7 draws
  • French-language proficiency: 3 draws
  • Other targeted categories (healthcare, trades, physicians, senior managers): Limited draws

ITAs Issued So Far in 2026

IRCC has issued a total of 61,154 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) across all categories this year. The distribution shows a clear preference:

  • Canadian Experience Class: 32,250 ITAs
  • French-language proficiency: 18,000 ITAs
  • Healthcare and social services: 4,000 ITAs
  • Provincial Nominee Program: 3,263 ITAs

What This Means for Candidates

The rising CRS cut-off reflects a more competitive environment, especially for candidates relying on Canadian work experience alone. With fewer invitations and higher score requirements, applicants may need to:

  • Improve their CRS score through language tests or education
  • Gain additional work experience
  • Explore provincial nomination pathways for a significant score boost

Outlook for Upcoming Draws

With IRCC continuing to prioritise inland candidates, CEC and PNP draws are expected to remain dominant in the coming months. However, fluctuating CRS scores suggest that candidates must stay prepared for sudden changes in cut-offs.

As competition intensifies, strategic profile improvements and timely application submissions will be key to securing an ITA in 2026.
