Alberta has intensified its immigration activity this month, issuing more than 1,100 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) through the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). The selections, carried out between November 10 and 14, represent one of the province’s most significant immigration efforts of 2025 and highlight Alberta’s renewed push to attract skilled workers, particularly in healthcare.

A Week of High-Volume Invitations

Over five days, the AAIP conducted two separate draws, inviting candidates from both the Alberta Opportunity Stream and the Alberta Express Entry Stream. Together, the draws resulted in 1,125 invitations being issued, an increase that signals Alberta’s intent to maximise its remaining 2025 nomination quota.

Alberta Opportunity Stream: Largest Contributor to Provincial Nominations

The bulk of the recent invitations were issued through the Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS)- a pathway tailored for temporary foreign workers already employed full-time in the province. With a nomination allocation exceeding 3,656 spots, the AOS continues to be Alberta’s highest-capacity immigration channel.

Who Can Apply Under AOS?

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Hold a full-time job offer from an eligible Alberta employer
  • Possess a valid work permit
  • Meet minimum standards in language ability, education, and work experience
  • Work in an eligible occupation and meet Alberta-specific criteria

As of November 19, Alberta has issued 3,120 nominations through this stream, leaving 536 spots for the remainder of 2025. However, the inventory still includes approximately 1,100 pending applications, suggesting more draws could follow before the year ends.

Healthcare-Focused Draw Under Express Entry

On November 14, the AAIP conducted another draw, this time targeting healthcare professionals through the Alberta Express Entry Stream’s priority sector category. Only 80 candidates were invited, but the draw is significant because it marks the province’s second healthcare-focused selection in 2025.

So far this year, Alberta has issued 494 nominations through its priority sector draws under the Express Entry–aligned stream. The province has a total of 660 nomination spots allocated to this category for 2025.

Express Entry Alignment: What It Means

Because this stream is linked to the federal Express Entry system:

  • Alberta can issue nominations directly to candidates in the federal pool.
  • Nominees receive an additional 600 CRS points, substantially increasing their chances of receiving an Invitation to Apply for Canada PR.
  • Candidates with experience in Alberta’s high-demand sectors—such as healthcare, aviation, construction, agriculture, law enforcement, and technology—may receive priority.

Alberta’s Nomination Capacity Expands for 2025

Earlier this year, the federal government approved a sizeable increase to Alberta’s nomination cap for 2025. The allocation rose from 4,875 to 6,603 nominations, an expansion of 1,728 spots.

Although this still falls short of the 9,750 nominations Alberta held in 2024, the updated allocation restores nearly 67% of that previous capacity. Provincial officials have clarified that these additional spots must be used by 2025, as they will not roll over into 2026.

What This Means for Prospective Immigrants

With Alberta accelerating its draw activity and holding significant allocations across multiple streams, candidates with:

  • Alberta work experience
  • In-demand healthcare credentials
  • Strong ties to the province
  • Competitive AAIP scores

…may find increased opportunities to secure a provincial nomination in the months ahead.

As Alberta moves to utilise its expanded quota before year-end, more high-volume draws, particularly for in-demand sectors, are expected.
