Alberta recorded 1,134 provincial immigration invitations in August 2026, with selections spread across several AAIP pathways. Healthcare professionals, technology workers, agricultural candidates and people seeking opportunities in participating rural communities were among those targeted during the month’s selections.

The results demonstrate how Alberta is using different immigration pathways to respond to workforce requirements across the province. Minimum selection scores also varied by stream, ranging from 51 to 66, showing that candidates can face very different thresholds depending on the pathway through which they are considered.

Alberta’s Largest August Selection Focused on the Opportunity Stream

The most significant selection of the month took place on August 14, when Alberta issued 743 invitations through the Alberta Opportunity Stream. Candidates selected in this round needed a minimum score of 58.

The size of this selection was substantially higher than the individual invitation numbers recorded in Alberta’s targeted Express Entry and sector-specific rounds. It also highlights the importance of the Opportunity Stream within Alberta’s broader provincial immigration system.

Healthcare Candidates Featured in Multiple Selections

Healthcare remained an important area of Alberta’s immigration strategy throughout August. Candidates were selected through several healthcare-focused routes rather than a single draw.

On August 12, Alberta issued 57 invitations through the Dedicated Health Care Pathway linked to Express Entry, while another 24 candidates received invitations through its non-Express Entry version on August 19. The Alberta Express Entry healthcare priority selection on August 4 added 50 more invitations, although this round had the month’s highest minimum score of 66.

For healthcare professionals, eligibility can depend on factors beyond a candidate’s general work experience. Applicants should carefully examine the requirements of the particular healthcare pathway that applies to their occupation and employment circumstances.

Technology and Agriculture Were Also Included

Alberta continued its sector-based approach by selecting candidates connected to technology and agriculture.

The Accelerated Tech Pathway produced 95 invitations on August 6, with candidates requiring a minimum score of 60. The following day, Alberta selected 38 candidates through its agriculture priority sector, with a minimum score of 55.

These results indicate that occupation and sector can influence provincial selection. Candidates should therefore assess whether their professional background aligns with Alberta’s current immigration priorities instead of relying solely on a general provincial nomination strategy.

Rural Immigration Remains Part of Alberta’s Selection Strategy

The Rural Renewal Stream produced another notable result on August 11, when 127 candidates were invited with a minimum score of 51.

The pathway has a rural focus, meaning prospective applicants need to consider the requirements associated with participating Alberta communities in addition to their individual qualifications. A lower draw threshold does not eliminate the need to satisfy the program’s other eligibility conditions.

What Should Prospective Applicants Watch Next?

The August results show that Alberta’s immigration opportunities remain distributed across several workforce categories. Instead of concentrating exclusively on one type of draw, prospective applicants may benefit from understanding the requirements of multiple pathways for which they could qualify.

Future invitation numbers and selection scores can change as Alberta manages its nomination allocation and responds to labour-market needs. Consequently, the August results should be viewed as a snapshot of the province’s recent selection activity rather than a prediction of the next draw.
