Entrepreneurs looking to establish themselves in British Columbia received another opportunity to pursue Canadian permanent residence through the province’s nominee program.

On August 25, 2026, the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP) selected 16 business candidates through its Entrepreneur Immigration category. The invitations were distributed between the program’s Base and Regional streams, with both categories recording a minimum score of 116.

The latest selection gives eligible business owners and investors another potential route toward permanent residence while contributing to British Columbia’s broader economic immigration strategy.

The August 25 round included invitations under both entrepreneur pathways operated by the BCPNP.

The Base Stream received the larger share, while five invitations went to candidates under the Regional Stream.

Across the nine entrepreneur selection rounds held during 2026, British Columbia has conducted 15 individual stream-level selections. Nine were conducted under the Base Stream and six under the Regional Stream.

The province has now issued at least 104 entrepreneur invitations during the year. When skilled-worker selections are also included, the BCPNP’s overall invitation total has reached at least 4,942 in 2026.

Base and Regional Streams Target Different Business Plans

Although both pathways are designed for entrepreneurs interested in building a future in British Columbia, their requirements are not identical.

The Base Stream is broader geographically and allows candidates to establish a new business or purchase an existing business with plans to expand it.

The Regional Stream, on the other hand, is intended for entrepreneurs prepared to establish a new business in participating communities located outside the Metro Vancouver Regional District.

*Applicants without a post-secondary credential may still meet the education requirement if they can demonstrate at least three years of active business ownership and management experience during the previous five years, with complete ownership of the business.

What Makes the Regional Stream Different?

The Regional Stream places greater emphasis on smaller communities across British Columbia.

Applicants choosing this pathway must first identify a participating community that suits their proposed business. They must also undertake an exploratory visit and secure a referral from the selected community.

This additional community-focused process distinguishes the Regional Stream from the Base Stream.

The financial requirements are also lower under the Regional option. Candidates need a minimum personal net worth of $300,000 and must invest at least $100,000, compared with $600,000 in net worth and a $200,000 investment requirement under the Base Stream.

However, Regional Stream applicants must hold at least 51% ownership of the proposed business.
