British Columbia has expanded its provincial immigration efforts with its biggest invitation round of the year, selecting 569 skilled immigration candidates through the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP). The latest selection demonstrates the province’s continued commitment to filling labour shortages by attracting qualified international workers who can support its growing economy.

The draw, conducted on July 16, 2026, focused on candidates in the Skills Immigration (SI) category and relied on two different assessment methods to identify applicants with strong economic potential.

The latest invitations were issued as part of British Columbia’s Innovate initiative, which is designed to identify individuals capable of making a meaningful contribution to the provincial economy.

Rather than targeting a limited group of occupations, this round was aimed at attracting professionals with strong employment prospects across a variety of industries. Provincial authorities have not disclosed which occupations or sectors received invitations.

This flexible selection model allows British Columbia to adjust invitations based on changing labour market demands instead of relying on fixed occupation lists.

British Columbia has remained one of Canada’s most active provinces in inviting skilled workers through provincial immigration.

So far in 2026, the province has:

Conducted 16 invitation rounds under the BC PNP.
Held nine Skills Immigration draws.
Organized six general Skills Immigration selections using registration scores and wage criteria.
Conducted three targeted rounds for priority occupations.
Issued at least 3,676 invitations through the Skills Immigration stream alone.

How the BC Skills Immigration System Works

Foreign nationals interested in receiving a provincial nomination must first create an Expression of Interest (EOI) by registering with the BC PNP.

Every registration is evaluated using a points system that measures an applicant’s ability to contribute to the provincial labour market. Candidates with stronger profiles receive higher scores and become more competitive for future invitation rounds.

The province may evaluate applicants using several factors, including:

Educational background
Occupation and industry demand
Skilled work experience
English or French language ability
Salary offered by the employer

Provincial economic priorities and labour market requirements

More Than 8,600 Profiles Are Waiting in the BC PNP Pool

British Columbia has also shared updated information on the number of candidates currently registered in the Skills Immigration selection system.

As of July 7, 2026, the registration pool contained 8,683 active profiles.
