British Columbia has issued 33 new invitations under its Temporary Rural/Remote Health Support Initiative (TRHSI), giving eligible workers in rural and remote healthcare settings another opportunity to pursue provincial nomination and Canadian permanent residence.

Second TRHSI Draw Raises Minimum Score
The September selection was the second draw conducted through the temporary initiative. British Columbia invited fewer candidates than in July, while the minimum score increased from 50 to 60.

The two rounds have produced 93 invitations in total. The BCPNP has not disclosed which specific eligible occupations were represented among the candidates selected.
Who Can Qualify for the TRHSI?
The pathway is designed for foreign nationals working full time for eligible B.C. public health authorities in qualifying rural or remote locations.
Three occupations are currently covered:

Applicants generally need nine months of continuous full-time employment in an eligible position with the same employer and in the same region before registering.
Location and Employer Requirements
Workers must be employed by one of the eight participating public health authorities, including Fraser Health, Interior Health, Island Health, Northern Health and Vancouver Coastal Health.
Jobs located in the Central Okanagan, Metro Vancouver and Capital regional districts are generally excluded, although several Gulf Islands have specific exceptions.
The application must also receive support from an authorized representative of the relevant health authority.

TRHSI Registration Deadline
British Columbia plans to nominate up to 250 workers through the temporary initiative. Registration is currently open until 11:59 p.m. on October 7, 2026.
The original August 31 deadline was extended following wildfire-related impacts in August.
Candidates must also meet additional requirements, including having a high school diploma, satisfying the applicable income requirement and maintaining their qualifying full-time employment during the application process.
What Happens After a Provincial Nomination?
A provincial nomination allows an eligible candidate to proceed with an application for Canadian permanent residence through the federal immigration system.
Eligible nominees already in Canada may also qualify for a Bridging Open Work Permit, subject to federal requirements. A temporary federal measure introduced in June 2026 allows certain base PNP nominees to apply for a BOWP without waiting for an Acknowledgement of Receipt for their PR application.
With registrations closing in October, workers in eligible rural and remote healthcare-support positions should review their occupation, work experience, location and employer support before registering.
