The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) made history on August 3rd, 2023, by conducting its first-ever targeted category-based Express Entry draw for candidates in the trades. A total of 1,500 candidates were invited to apply for permanent residency in Canada under this new category, aimed at attracting skilled workers in trades professions to bolster the country’s construction sector. The draw required a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 388 for candidates to be eligible.
The announcement of the targeted draw came on Monday, August 1st when IRCC revealed its plan to prioritize candidates with experience in trades professions in the Express Entry pool. This strategic move is in line with Canada’s efforts to address the growing demand for skilled labor in the construction industry and further solidify its position as a top destination for immigrants seeking job opportunities and a high standard of living.
