Alberta’s provincial immigration program saw one of its busiest periods of the year, so far, as it issued over 1,300 immigration prospects with invites in a batch of draws that occurred in early September.

Busy Beginning of the Month
From September 2nd to September 10th, there were seven consecutive selection rounds under the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP). The draws specialize in nominees who not only meet program requirements, but also possess work opportunities that match Alberta’s highest labor market needs.
This wave of invitations marks a record pace for the province, with September already outpacing all previous months in 2025.
Spotlight On The Alberta Opportunity Stream
Its largest draw round came on September 4th, when close to 900 invites came out under the Alberta Opportunity Stream. This route, by virtue of a huge intake cap and high applicant interest, is still the cornerstone of the immigration program of Alberta. Close to 40,000 Expressions of Interest are, at this moment, queued up in its candidate pool, as evidence of its popularity among skilled workers.
Distribution of Invitations
Whereas the Opportunity Stream by far produced the highest number of invites, there was also movement in streams elsewhere. Draws happened in streams like health care, building, farming, and aviation.
- Aviation sector draw (Sept. 10): 30 invitations, cut-off score 50
- Health care sector draw (Sept. 9): 70 invitations, cut-off score 64
- Construction sector draw (Sept. 8): 121 invitations, cut-off score 61
- Agriculture sector draw (Sept. 5): 71 invitations, cut-off score 48
- Dedicated Health Care Pathway (Sept. 2 & 3): 193 invitations combined
Priority Sectors Shaping Decisions
Alberta altered its immigration strategy this year by concentrating its Express Entry-related draws in priority industry streams. The following industries are now in focus:
- Healthcare
- Construction
- Aviation
- Agriculture
Besides such specialized attractions, there also exist three specialized itineraries operated by the province:
- Dedicated Health Care Pathway,
- Accelerated Tech Pathway, and
- Law Enforcement Pathway.
Nomination Targets and Updates
Alberta was given 4,875 provincial nominees in 2025. This year, it has issued 3,749 up to mid-September, so it still has 1,126 spots available this year.
This is what it works out to by stream:
- Alberta Express Entry (priority sectors): 348 nominations issued out of 405 available
- Dedicated Health Care Pathways: 353 out of 500 nominations allocated
- Alberta Opportunity Stream: 2,016 out of 2,592 nominations issued
It also clarified that there are 1,768 pending applications currently under review, which will affect how much of the remaining quota will be allocated.
Prospects of Skilled Workers
This month’s invitation rush proves that Alberta is in dire need of filling vital positions in both core services and budding industries. Express Entry candidates, either in the pool or with work offers in Alberta’s in-demand occupations, could get higher probabilities of being chosen as time goes by.
With merely a few months remaining in 2025, commentators speculate that Alberta will continue to concentrate high-demand fields to make use of its remaining nomination allocations.
