Newfoundland and Labrador has continued its 2026 immigration activity with a new selection round that brought 62 prospective immigrants into the provincial process. The latest round, held on September 18, included candidates from both the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) and the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP).
The province selected 61 candidates through the NLPNP and one candidate through the AIP. Those receiving invitations must now complete the applicable provincial or Atlantic program requirements before they can advance toward a Canadian permanent residence application.

September Selection Brings 62 Candidates Forward
The latest draw was relatively small compared with several earlier selection rounds conducted by Newfoundland and Labrador during 2026. Nevertheless, it adds to the province’s growing number of immigration selections this year.
The September 18 distribution was:
| Program | Number selected |
| NLPNP | 61 |
| AIP | 1 |
| Total | 62 |
The province does not release a detailed occupation or individual NLPNP-stream breakdown for its selection rounds. As a result, the September 18 results do not identify which specific occupations accounted for the invitations.

2026 Invitations Cross the 2,600 Mark
Newfoundland and Labrador has received an allocation of 2,854 spaces across its provincial immigration programs for 2026.
| Program | Allocated spaces |
| NLPNP | 2,379 |
| AIP | 475 |
| Total | 2,854 |
The annual allocation should not be interpreted as a direct limit on the number of invitations that can appear in individual draws. The allocation refers to the number of nomination or endorsement certificates the province can issue during the year, whereas invitations may be issued earlier and are part of the selection process.
What Happens to Workers After a Provincial Nomination?
Changes to federal work permit rules may also be relevant to some provincial nominees already working in Canada.
Under a temporary federal measure, eligible applicants using a base PNP pathway can apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit without waiting for an Acknowledgement of Receipt for their permanent residence application.
If an existing work permit expires while the bridging permit application is being processed, an eligible applicant who remains in Canada may be able to continue working under maintained status and the conditions attached to the previous permit.
The rules are different under the AIP. AIP candidates cannot receive a Bridging Open Work Permit, but those endorsed for permanent residence may qualify for a two-year employer-specific work permit associated with the program.
Federal Processing Times Vary by Pathway
Once provincial requirements have been completed, applicants still need to go through the federal permanent residence process. The processing figures reported in the source on September 4 were different for each pathway.
| Immigration application | Reported processing time |
| Base PNP | 13 months |
| Enhanced PNP | 7 months |
| AIP | 26 months |
These are federal processing periods and do not represent the amount of time required for a candidate to receive an invitation, complete the provincial process or obtain a nomination or endorsement.

Conclusion
The latest Newfoundland and Labrador selection gives another indication that the province continues to use its EOI-based system to identify candidates for provincial immigration opportunities.
Applicants interested in the province should pay attention to the requirements of their chosen pathway, including job-offer conditions, EOI eligibility and the province’s stated selection priorities. Keeping an EOI profile current is also important because profiles remain in the pool for a limited period.
For candidates who receive an invitation, meeting the 60-day submission deadline is a key part of moving the application forward. A provincial invitation alone does not provide permanent residence; candidates must successfully complete the applicable provincial or AIP stage before proceeding to the federal application process.
